Ann Morgan Guilbert, Who Played Grandma Yetta On "The Nanny," Has Died

We'll miss you, Yetta.

Actress Ann Morgan Guilbert, best known for playing Grandma Yetta on The Nanny, has died of cancer. She was 87.

Guilbert died of cancer in Los Angeles on Tuesday, her daughter Nora Eckstein said.

Fran Drescher praised her co-star on Twitter, tweeting “Such a great actress! I thank you Annie. Thank you for all the laughs! May you be cracking them up in heaven!”

The Minneapolis-born actress got her start in the 1950s as a singer in the Billy Barnes Revue. Her breakthrough role was on The Dick Van Dyke Show, where she played neighbor Millie Helper.

But gay audiences will remember her best as Fran's dotty grandmother Yetta, who was a font of wisdom even if she thought the Sheffield home was a hotel.

Ironically Guilbert, was only five years older than Renée Taylor, who played her daughter (and Fran's mom) Sylvia.

Guilbert remained active professionally in recent years, appearing on Getting On and winning CFA for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the 2010 film Please Give.

Logo will salute Ann Morgan Guilbert with a marathon of The Nanny featuring some of Yetta's best moments on Monday, June 20, starting at 4pm.
