Britney Jean is an eternal friend of the LGBT community, and she's excited about a new study released by GLAAD that shows rising acceptance of LGBT people among the non-LGBT population.

The pop star tweeted her support for the community today, acknowledging that the uptick in acceptance is great, but "We still have A LOT of work to do to achieve social change ?"

GLAAD's annual Accelerating Acceptance report gauges the level of "complacency and ambivalence among Americans on LGBT issues," and is conducted by Harris Poll on GLAAD's behalf.

The second annual poll released this week found greater LGBT acceptance among non-LGBT people in six categories that determined how "uncomfortable" Americans are with things like same-sex couples holding hands, learning that a family member is LGBT, and seeing photos from an LGBT coworker's same-sex wedding.

On the flipside, the report also uncovered issues which non-LGBT people don't believe are legitimate problems, like the startling rate of LGBT homelessness and the murder rate of transgender women.

At least 50% of those surveyed were under the false impression that "gay people have the same rights as everybody else."

"Complacency is the enemy of social progress," said GLAAD CEO and President Sarah Kate Ellis. "2015 was a monumental year for the LGBT community, but marriage equality is a benchmark – not a finish line.The hard work of legislative change must go hand in hand with that which cannot be decided in a courtroom: changing hearts and minds."

"In order to enact meaningful change, we first need to understand how Americans really feel about LGBT people and issues," Ellis told NewNowNext. "This report gives us tremendous insight into present-day sentiments, and helps us hone GLAAD’s culture-changing programs to tackle complacency and drive acceptance forward."
