Mariah Carey Is The Ultimate Pop Star, According To "Time" Magazine

Time magazine has finally confirmed what Mariah Carey's been saying for the past 20 years: she's the biggest pop star of all time.

As part of its "Answers Issue," Time came up with a ranking of 50 singers, bands and groups who have had a top 10 Billboard hit since 1960 to determine who has had the biggest years and longest career.

Though Mimi sits atop the chart, Rihanna is eyeing the throne. Usher has the crown for biggest year — 2004 — surpassing The Beatles and their 1964 Liverpoolian Invasion.

Meanwhile, other divas are well-represented with Madonna sitting pretty in the fifth spot, followed by Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson.

Click here for the full chart and an explanation of the methodology behind the rankings. I'm still waiting, however, for an explanation for the omission of one Miss Diana Ross — and don't give me that Supremes jazz.

And also don't think I didn't see this Janet shade:

Due to a programming error, the original version of this [ranking] incorrectly attributed three hit songs to Carlos Santana and omitted several by Janet Jackson.

Mmm-hmmmm.
