Gay Trump Supporters Plan "Deplorable Pride" Event At Charlotte Pride

The conservative group wasn't allowed to march with a Melania drag queen.

Charlotte-based Republican LGBT group Deplorable Pride, who were denied a spot in the city’s annual Charlotte Pride parade, are planning a protest Sunday afternoon at the popular North Carolina celebration, the Charlotte Observer reports.

“Come and show your support for your fellow Trump supporters who are LGBT and are being persecuted by their own gay community,” Deplorable Pride posted on its site. “Please help us show that intolerance is not acceptable.”

Deplorable Pride organizers are calling their march, which is scheduled for 30 minutes before the parade, a "non-confrontational peaceful demonstration."

The group made headlines earlier this year when Charlotte Pride denied them permission to enter a 27-foot-long float in the parade that would have featured a female impersonator dressed as Melania Trump.

Gay Deplorable Pride organizer Brian Talbert claimed he was barred from this year’s event because of his politics, adding that Charlotte Pride organizers accused him of being “anti-gay.”

"In the past, we have made similar decisions to decline participation from other organizations espousing anti-LGBTQ religious or public policy stances,” said a Charlotte Pride spokesperson in a statement. “Charlotte Pride envisions a world in which LGBTQ people are affirmed, respected, and included in the full social and civic life of their local communities, free from fear of any discrimination, rejection, and prejudice.”

Charlotte Pride has officially become the city’s largest annual parade, with 152 float entrants and 4,500 people registered to march this year.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, who are carefully monitoring social media, are aware of the Deplorable Pride protest and say that it is the only known protest scheduled to coincide with Sunday’s parade.
