A Jazz Jennings Doll Is Debuting At New York Toy Fair

The Jazz figurine will be the first transgender doll on the market.

A transgender doll based on trans teenager and reality TV star Jazz Jennings is set to make its debut at the New York Toy Fair this weekend.

The doll was created by Tonner Doll Company and is possibly the first ever transgender doll to be manufactured for mass production.

"This is the first transgender doll on the market, and guess what?! It's ME!" the I Am Jazz star wrote on Instagram. "I hope that it can place transgender people in a positive light by showing that we are just like all other people."

The 18-inch figurine, whose plastic body bears no traditional gender markers, was designed by Tonner CEO Robert Tonner, who said Jennings embodies all the characteristics he most admires.

“Jazz stands for everything I respect from a human nature point of view," he wrote in a statement. "She’s incredibly brave, intelligent, warm-hearted and creative.”

On her hit TLC show, the 16-year-old trailblazer regularly opens up about health issues, her dating life and what it's like growing up transgender.

When she's not filming her show, Jennings tours the country as an advocate for trans youth and promotes her memoir, Being Jazz, which chronicles her experiences as one of the public faces of the transgender community.

“Right from the start I wanted to be my authentic self,” Jennings told The Huffington Post last year. “I always gravitated toward all feminine things. I insisted that I was a girl, and over the years my parents realized I was a little bit different and decided to love and embrace me for who I am.”

The Jazz doll will soon be available here.
