Turner Classic Movies Pays Tribute to Late Gay Heartthrob Tab Hunter

Spend a day binging films like "The Steel Lady" and "Operation Bikini."

What better way to honor a late Hollywood legend than by binging the movies that helped make him a star?

Turner Classic Movies has announced it will celebrate the life and career of gay icon Tab Hunter Friday, July 20, with an eight-film all-day tribute.

The special TCM lineup includes The Steel Lady (1953), Return to Treasure Island (1954), Lafayette Escadrille (1958), Operation Bikini (1963), The Golden Arrow (1964), The Girl He Left Behind (1956), The Burning Hills (1956), and The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean (1972). Sorry, no Polyester or Grease 2.

Hunter, who starred in more than 40 films dating back to the 1950s, came out publicly as gay in his 2005 memoir, Tab Hunter Confidential.

Retired and living on a ranch in Santa Barbara, Hunter passed away July 8 at the age of 86, just three days shy of his 87th birthday. His partner, Allan Glaser, confirmed he died from cardiac arrest.

Zachary Quinto and J.J. Abrams are producing Tab & Tony, a biopic about the secret love affair between Hunter and Anthony Perkins. Hunter was photographed in New York last month when he saw Quinto on Broadway in The Boys in the Band.

Gay TCM host Robert Osborne, the longtime face of the network, died last year at 84.
