RuPaul RuCreates Iconic March on Washington Lewk for New Voting PSA
It's Election Night eleganza!
The worlds of politics and drag have collided more and more over the past few years. RuPaul’s Drag Race now ends every episode with queens carrying signs urging viewers to register to vote, and Sen. Elizabeth Warren had a booth at last year’s RuPaul’s DragCon NYC. Earlier this year, bestselling author and speaker Jackie Huba also founded Drag Out the Vote, a movement enlisting drag-queen ambassadors to help eligible Americans register to vote.
Now, RuPaul herself is chiming in to tell you how important it is to cast your ballot in November's presidential election. A new PSA takes viewers back to the "Stars and Stripes" runway challenge from the most recent season of RuPaul's Drag Race.
As the girls stand before the judges in their patriotic ensembles, Mama Ru tells them, "The time has come..." but in a twist, Ru continues, "for you to vote for your life—and don't fuck it up."
The PSA then directs viewers to the Vote For Your Life website to make a plan to vote. The 30-second spot ends with Ru standing in her own patriotic ensemble on the mainstage and telling her squirrel friends to "vote for your life!"
Does Ru's outfit seem familiar? That's because it's a ru-creation of her iconic look from the 1993 March on Washington for Lesbian, Gay, and Bi Equal Rights and Liberation. Dare we say Ru looks even more fierce in the outfit now almost 30 years later? Werk!
